Five pillars, one working method.
We organize around problems residents raise directly, keep programs small enough for volunteers to run well, and publish what happens — good or difficult — on our Stories page.
Keeping the footbridge safe
The footbridge connecting Gituamba to Kasarani town is the organization's namesake and remains an active program area. We track its condition, coordinate rapid informal repairs when the county's schedule cannot move fast enough, and petition for permanent upgrades such as drainage and lighting along the approach path.
Recent work includes an August 2026 emergency handrail replacement and a November 2025 petition, signed by 94 residents, requesting drainage works on the muddy approach path.

Mentorship and a full stomach to learn on
Our education work runs on two tracks at Gituamba Primary School: a termly mentorship circle pairing upper-primary girls with women volunteers, and a school feeding program providing morning porridge and lunch three days a week to address hunger-related absenteeism.
The feeding program has since expanded to a second primary school, and the mentorship model has produced measurable, if informal, improvements in attendance and classroom confidence among participants.

Protecting the stream that runs beneath our bridge
Unregulated construction upstream and dumped waste have worsened erosion and flooding along the stream that flows under the footbridge. We respond with volunteer cleanup days and indigenous tree and vetiver planting exercises to stabilize the banks.
Our June 2026 cleanup mobilized 120 volunteers to clear roughly three tonnes of waste, building on lessons learned from our first, smaller cleanup in 2025.

A savings network built from one group under a mango tree
What began as a single informal savings circle of eleven women in 2022 has grown into a coordinated network of five table banking groups across Gituamba, giving members access to credit for school fees, stock, and emergencies without resorting to predatory lenders.
We support groups with basic bookkeeping training and help interested circles formally register as self-help groups with the Department of Social Development, unlocking access to government-linked enterprise funds.

Screening, first aid, and a football league
Our health work includes periodic free screening camps for blood pressure, blood sugar and basic eye care in partnership with Kasarani Health Centre, a basic first-aid training program for boda boda riders stationed near the footbridge, and the Gituamba Bridge Cup, an under-15 football league that keeps young people engaged during school holidays.
Our March 2026 health camp screened 312 residents in a single day, referring 17 for follow-up blood pressure care.
