About us

Neighbors who kept showing up to fix a bridge, and stayed.

What is now a registered CBO with five program areas began the same way many community organizations do: informally, and around one specific, unavoidable problem.

Our story

Long before our Certificate of Registration was issued on 28th October 2020, residents of Gituamba in Kasarani Sub-County had already been informally maintaining the footbridge connecting their homes to Kasarani town for years — pooling small contributions whenever a plank rotted or a handrail gave way.

Several of our founding members first came to know one another not through a structured meeting, but by repeatedly showing up to the same informal repair days. When the group decided to formalize into a Community Based Organization, naming it after the bridge itself was the only choice that made sense.

Since registration, our work has grown from that single, literal bridge into five program pillars covering education, the environment, women's economic empowerment, and health — while the footbridge itself remains both our namesake and an active area of our work.

Governance

How we are run

We are governed by an elected committee accountable to registered members at an Annual General Meeting held every December, with day-to-day programs coordinated by volunteer program officers, one per pillar, appointed since our 2025 restructuring.

Committee

Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and two elected members oversee strategy, partnerships and financial accountability, serving terms set out in our constitution.

Program officers

Five volunteer officers, one per pillar, coordinate day-to-day activity in infrastructure, education, environment, women's empowerment and health.

Members & volunteers

Registered members and a wider circle of program volunteers carry out the work itself, from mentorship sessions to stream cleanups.
