The footbridge itself has held up reasonably well against informal repairs over the years, but the unpaved approach path on the Gituamba side turns into a slippery, ankle-deep mud channel within minutes of moderate rainfall, a hazard that residents have complained about informally for years without a formal record ever being filed.

That changed after a resident slipped on the approach path in late October, injuring her wrist while carrying farm produce to the Kasarani market, an incident that prompted our committee to draft a formal written petition to the Kasarani Sub-County engineering office requesting a simple murram-and-culvert drainage upgrade along roughly 80 meters of the approach.

The petition was signed by 94 residents collected over one weekend at the market and at the primary school gate, and was formally submitted alongside photographs documenting the flooding pattern across three separate rain events.

“We are not asking for a new bridge or a tarmac road. We are asking for water to be directed away from the path we all use every single day, which is a small request with a large impact on our safety.”
— Petition organizer

The sub-county office acknowledged receipt and indicated the request would be considered in the next quarter's minor works budget. We will continue to follow up and will publish an update here as soon as we have confirmation of a works schedule.

Residents who want to add their name to future infrastructure petitions, or who notice a new hazard along the footbridge or its approach, can report it directly through our Contact page.
